Tess has known Nubank CEO David Vélez since 2011 and other co-investors of Nubank - all Stanford GSB alumni. She has been on the ground floor with NuBank from the beginning.
David Vélez Osorno is the founding shareholder, the Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Chief Executive Officer of Nubank. He has also been a member of the Stakeholders’ Committee since July 2021. Before founding Nu in 2013, David was a partner at Sequoia Capital between January 2011 and March 2013, in charge of the firm’s Latin American investments group. Before Sequoia, David worked in investment banking and growth equity at Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and General Atlantic. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Management Science and Engineering and a Master’s in Business Administration, both from Stanford University.
Me and Tess have gone way back, since 2011, and she has been with me since the beginning of NuBank. Both determined and ambitious, Tess puts in the effort to cultivate relationships around her and has the inspiring aura of a leader. She has an amazing work ethic that is above and beyond most if not all - I saw firsthand how Tess can keep up her energy level and effectiveness through many consecutive 20-hour work days. And through it all, she has a smile on her face because making a difference in the live of other people drives her. Even though Tess and I both were at Stanford, her ability to build and cultivate relationships was head and shoulders above our peers, so it's not a surprise to see the scope and depth of her powerful network today.
When I was ideating the beginnings of Nubank, Tess saw not only the potential of my idea, but the potential in myself, and she has been an amazing supporter since. I have been extremely grateful for having such a trusted and amazing individual on my team!
